Acrostic Poem Written by Keira McGrath

I want to shake you into my awareness; piercing voice coming at you like a missile, until you open your eyes and see me standing before you exposed and naked.

God! The view from your mighty, all-powerful throne must be so crystal fucking clear.

Never is understanding your aim

Over and over, you shroud me with your self-righteous indignation; with your narrow, one-dimensional perception of my humanness.

R
arely, are you guided by compassion. Why bother to build a bridge to the mainland when you can live sheltered on the island you rule so vehemently with an iron fist?

Another year passes–one filled with milestones—homes purchasing, children arriving, cancer beating—milestones of which you know

Nothing, yet possess such a powerful, dissenting opinion. From your pulpit you spew your Gospel:

Come back to the island! Here, we will love you! But only if you think like we think, do what we do, judge like we judge, fear like we fear, hate like we hate.

Encased by sadness and numbed by profound disbelief, I wonder where tolerance dwells and how I will ever forgive you.
