Donate Time This Weekend to NYC Businesses Affected by Hurricane Sandy

Local stores are the heart and soul of our neighborhoods, and so many of them need our help so that they can get up and running again after Hurricane Sandy.  Tomorrow, November 10th and Sunday, November 11th we will be going door-to-door in hard-hit neighborhoods to give businesses information on disaster assistance, business loans and cleaning up the damage. Join our team and help these pillars of our communities rebuild!

SMALL BUSINESS OUTREACH

  • Sunday, 12pm-3pm: Please join Public Advocate Bill de Blasio and Assemblyman Phillip Goldfeder to help distribute valuable information to business owners in Howard Beach regarding disaster assistance from NYC Small Business Services, FEMA, and the Small Business Administration. Location: Volunteers will meet at the Waldbaum’s Parking Lot, 156-01 Cross Bay Blvd in Howard Beach, Queens at noon.  RSVP here

 

ADDITIONAL VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

Staten Island:

  • Saturday & Sunday, 10am-3pm: Help Congressman Michael Grimm and City Councilman Vincent Ignizio sort and distribute donations. Location: 300 Western Avenue, Staten Island. No RSVP is necessary – please head to the warehouse and ask for Blaire.

Brooklyn

  • Saturday and Sunday, 1:30pm: The Brooklyn YWCA needs 3 cars to deliver food to the Rockaways. Location: 30 Third Avenue, Brooklyn.  RSVP here

  • Saturday, 9am: join Coney Island Recovers for storm damage clean up, distribution of supplies to storm victims, and outreach to affected residents and businesses. Meet at Tom’s Restaurant on the Boardwalk,  RSVP here
  • Saturday, 10am: New York Communities for Change will be sending volunteers to the Rockaways to deliver supplies, knock on doors, and do needs assessment. RSVP here and be sure to include whether you have your own car, and the number of passengers you can fit.

Bronx

  • Saturday, 10am: Help Locust Point Civic Center clean-up the Center which was damaged by the storm. Meet at 3310 Tierney Avenue in the Bronx.  RSVP here

  • Sunday, 12pm–2pm: Schuyler Hill Civic Association needs volunteers to help with clean-up efforts. Meet at 3087 Mitchell Place in the Bronx. Please RSVP to Bob Kurz, 646-302-1744

DONATIONS

  • Broad Channel Volunteer Fire Department needs food and beverages, especially hot food and hot coffee/tea donations for residents and responders to Sandy recovery. Please bring to 15 Noel Road, Broad Channel, NY 11693 between 10am and 8pm on Saturday and Sunday. Please contact Tracy Moccio 917-991-8801 with any questions.
